What to Look For When
Buying A Home Theater Armoire or Cabinet…
If You Can Find One That’s Big Enough!
Can’t find a
cabinet or armoire large enough for your HDTV?

Performance Furniture specializes in
consoles for TVs up to 70-inches. Founder Steven Bell tells you what to look
for and offers a variety of solutions in the form of heirloom quality
furniture he sells over the internet – direct to consumers – at savings of
40% or more.
Miami, FL, Performance Furniture, March 3, 2007 – “My husband brought
home a 60-inch Sony HDTV for the holidays and I’ve been searching for a
cabinet ever since. I just can’t find anything big enough so its been
sitting on the coffee table for the last three months.”
“I can’t begin to tell you how many times a day we hear the same story,”
says Steven Bell, electronics buff and founder of Performance Furniture, an
online company that manufactures heirloom-quality Home Theater furniture and
sells it over the internet direct to consumers at substantial savings – 40%
and more.
Bell saw a void and is filling it with TV furniture for Plasma and LCD sets
IMS
Research, a leading market research provider to the electronics industry,
predicts double-digit growth in the HDTV market over the next few years,
anticipating the shipment of nearly 60 million HDTVs by 2010.
As the quest for even larger TVs continues, customers face a daunting
challenge: Where can they find furniture large enough to house it?
Bell says finding a 60” or 70” HDTV is as easy as finding kids in a toy
store. But try to find attractive furniture to put it in and your happy days
are over.
“Even though LCD furniture represents the largest growth segment in the
furniture industry, manufacturers still don’t focus on it and furniture
stores still don’t carry it, which still leaves customers out on a limb.
That’s why I started Performance Furniture in 1998. I couldn’t find a
high-quality cabinet for my top-of-the-line HDTV so I made one for myself.”
That was the start of something big
Today
Bell’s company makes 36 products and is still the only place consumers can
find heirloom quality furniture large enough for their TV and beautiful
enough for their home. Customer excitement centers primarily on furniture
quality, functionality and details such as premium hardwoods, dovetail
drawers, adjustable shelves and proper ventilation.

Tips – What To
Look For When Purchasing TV Furniture:
Size Matters
Start with accurate measurements. Since a TV screen is measured vertically
across the screen, a 60” TV usually fits in a cabinet only 55” wide. Check
both width and height of TV before discounting a cabinet as a potential
match.
Keep Your Eyes On Viewing Height
Most people want their eyes to hit about one-third the way up the screen
when seated. Many cabinets on the market are either too high or too low for
comfort.
Component Storage
If you want to store components inside the cabinet, make sure it has
adequate space, adjustable shelving and the ability to handle the heaviest
amplifiers.
Cable Cutouts
Are there easily removable cutouts in the back and/or side panels for cable
connections? The most user-friendly approach is being able to reach through
the back to make connections easily.
Watch Out For The
Doors
Make sure you don’t have big doors hanging out in the middle of your room
when watching TV. Consoles manufactured by Performance Furniture feature
double-hinged, bifold doors that fold up out of the way for TV viewing.
Ventilation Means
Breathing Room
Is the cabinet properly ventilated for both TV and components? TVs can fit
snugly on the top and sides but Bell says there should be an open cutout in
the back for ventilation.
Value and Price
No matter how much money people have to spend, they are always looking for
value. One noticeable difference between Performance and other fine
furniture retailers is the fact that the company sells direct to consumers,
side-stepping retail dealers who typically mark furniture up 100% and more.
Bell says his customers save at least 40% – often more by buying direct.
